Objective: This study aims to examine the influence of Christian tradition on Islamic mysticism through a comparative analysis of mystical concepts in the Gospels and Rumi's Masnavi. The research seeks to elucidate the points of convergence and divergence between these two mystical traditions, focusing particularly on the teachings of Jesus (AS) in Christian scriptures and their reflection in Rumi's thought.
Methodology: Employing a descriptive-analytical method with a comparative approach, the study collects data through library research and close examination of primary texts (the four Gospels and the Masnavi). Content analysis focuses on key concepts such as divine love, soteriology, and the character of Jesus (AS).
Findings: The research demonstrates that while remaining faithful to Quranic principles, Rumi skillfully adapted Gospel themes to expand Islamic mystical concepts. Key findings include:The transformation of agape (divine love) in the Gospels into the concept of metaphorical love for the Divine Beloved in the Masnavi. The evolution of salvation theology from Christ's sacrifice in Christianity to the notion of fana fi Allah (annihilation in God) in Sufism. The portrayal of Jesus (AS) as a symbol of spiritual revival within an Islamic framework
Conclusion: The study reveals that Islamic mysticism, particularly as articulated by Rumi, creatively reinterpreted Christian concepts within an Islamic worldview. This synthesis produced a unified mystical discourse that both incorporates Christian teachings and harmonizes them with Islamic foundations.
