This article aims to investigate the secondary intentions of interrogative sentences in Persian technical prose. It analyzes the application of these structures in two works: Maqamat-e Hamidi and Nafthat al-Masdur. Interrogative sentences in these texts, beyond their primary function of seeking information, are employed with diverse figurative meanings and rhetorical functions. They play a significant role in conveying emotions, enhancing the artistic aspects of language, and influencing the audience. The research methodology is descriptive-analytical, and the data were collected by thoroughly examining and categorizing interrogative examples from both texts. The findings indicate that in Maqamat-e Hamidi, intentions such as astonishment and wonder, reproach and admonishment, negative interrogative (rhetorical question implying negation), affirmation, admiration, humor and mockery, and indirect request or command have a higher frequency. In contrast, the use of interrogative sentences in Nafthat al-Masdur is more prominent in expressing sorrow, regret, helplessness, and negative interrogation. The research results suggest that interrogative sentences in both works are considered key elements in shaping the style, strengthening the emotional dimension, and increasing the text’s impact. Analyzing them can lead to a more precise understanding of the semantic and rhetorical layers of these literary pieces.
