In recent decades, while maintaining its connection with tradition, contemporary Persian ghazal has become an arena for new experiments in language, content, and especially imagery. In the meantime, Fazel Nazari is one of the poets who, by utilizing his rhetorical and imaginative capacities, has tried to move the visual system of ghazal from its familiar and repetitive state to new combinations and relationships. Accordingly, the present study aims to criticize and analyze the new techniques of imagery in Fazel Nazari’s ghazal in order to identify the most important methods of his imagery and to examine the extent of success of these techniques in creating novelty, conveying emotion, and expanding the expressive capacity of the ghazal. The necessity of this study arises from the fact that a significant part of the public’s interest in Fazel Nazari’s ghazals, despite his widespread fame, has been analyzed less from a scientific and critical perspective, focusing on visual mechanisms. The main question of the research is what techniques Fazel Nazari uses to create new images and to what extent these techniques have been effective in improving the artistic quality of his ghazals. The research method is descriptive-analytical and based on library study and examination of examples of the poet's ghazals. The research findings show that the most important visual techniques in his poetry include de-familiarity, combining objective and subjective matters, showing contradictions, utilizing the symbolic capacity of objects, and connecting emotions with everyday images.
