Yellow fiction is one of the modernist and postmodernist manifestations of contemporary literature, introducing distinctive innovations in both theme and content as well as form and structure into the broader discourse of contemporary literature. This literary genre, in accordance with both its theoretical nature and its practical function at the individual and social levels, has been influenced by the hegemony of the systematic and complex ideology dominant over the lifestyle of ordinary people in the contemporary era. Since discourses fundamentally emerge from two primary sources—power and ideology—this study, employing a descriptive-analytical method, has sought to examine the relationship between the factor of ideology and the discourse of yellow fiction in post-1979 (post-revolutionary) Iran. The findings of this study have examined forms of interaction between ideology and literature—such as the dominance of the cultural system, the justification or consolidation of the prevailing social order, the direction and channeling of the expectations and fantasies of ordinary people, and a form of resistance against other ideologies—within the works produced by this literary genre, and have attributed these influences to factors or institutions such as beliefs and norms, education, culture, the state, law, and others.
